Reports in Italy suggest Inter Milan are preparing to activate the option to buy Swiss defender Manuel Akanji from Manchester City for €15 million.
The current loan deal includes a clause that would make the transfer mandatory if Akanji plays in 50% of Inter’s matches this season or if the club wins the Serie A title.
Akanji joined Inter on the final day of the summer transfer window for a €1m loan fee and has already impressed, starting three Serie A games and one Champions League clash against Ajax.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Inter’s management has been highly impressed with the 30-year-old’s performances and are seriously considering sealing a permanent deal without waiting for the obligatory clause to be triggered.
Akanji began his career at Winterthur before moving to Basel, then Borussia Dortmund, and finally Manchester City in 2022 for €20m. During his time in England, he collected multiple domestic and European titles.
