Popular social media platform Instagram is developing a "Friend Map" feature, Meta's Spokesperson said on Monday.
The opt-in feature would allow users to see their friends’ locations in real time.
The company highlighted that the feature is an internal prototype and is not being tested externally.
This feature is somehow similar to Snapchat's Snap Map, and it is not the only Snapchat feature that is copied by Instagram.
Instagram’s Friend Map would allow users to choose who can see their location, however, the location data would be end-to-end encrypted.
User could choose to share his/her location with followers who follow her/him back, the “Close Friends” list or no one.
The feature would also feature a “Ghost Mode” setting that would hide the user's last active location.
