Granada CF has confirmed that their goalkeeper, Luka Zidane, suffered a fractured jaw and chin following a collision during last Sunday’s match against UD Almería in Spain’s second division.

The incident occurred in the 87th minute of the game after an aerial challenge with Brazilian forward Thalys Henrique.

The match was halted for several minutes as Zidane received treatment on the pitch after showing signs of dizziness and bleeding from the mouth, before being taken off at Estadio Nuevo Los Cármenes.

In an official statement, Granada confirmed that medical tests revealed the goalkeeper is also suffering from a concussion alongside the facial fractures.

The club said Zidane will decide on his treatment plan in consultation with medical staff in the coming hours, with surgery considered a possible option.

The injury comes at a difficult time for the player, who is expected to be a key figure for the Algeria national football team ahead of upcoming international commitments, including preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Reports from ESPN indicate that his participation in the tournament is now in doubt.

Algeria, coached by Vladimir Petkovic, also faces a growing selection problem as other goalkeepers, including Anthony Mandrea and Milven Mastel, are also dealing with injuries.

Zidane’s absence would represent a major setback for Algeria as they prepare for a challenging World Cup group stage campaign.
