Indonesia's President Joko Widodo called on Western leaders to tone down their rhetoric regarding Russia at the G20 summit in Bali, Politico newspaper said on Sunday, citing its sources.

According to Politico, Indonesian officials, including Widodo, are pressing their Western partners to be more flexible and considering the possibility of using less hardline rhetoric regarding Moscow.

The paper said this is aimed at getting Russia, represented at the summit by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, to agree to the final decision of the summit, adding that Widodo will see it as a personal success if the resolution is passed.

The Politico noted that Saudi Arabia, India, Brazil, and China do not want to condemn Russia in the final declaration.

The G20 summit will be held in Bali on November 15-16. Russia will be represented by Lavrov.
