On Thursday, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi joined a select group of world leaders to grace India's 74th Republic Day celebrations.

The public holiday marks the anniversary of India officially adopting its constitution, making it a sovereign republic. The first parade in 1950 was held to mark the end of India's ties to the British empire.

It is celebrated with a parade every year on January 26 held in the capital city of New Delhi, featuring a display of India's cultural and military heritage.

The parade is the main attraction of the Republic Day celebrations, which last for three days.
