Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the launch of the Global Biofuel Alliance during his address at the opening session of the Group of Twenty (G20) summit held in New Delhi on Saturday.
This initiative aims to protect the environment and promote the transition in the energy sector.
Prime Minister Modi stated, "Today, we are launching the Global Biofuel Alliance. India invites you all to join this initiative."
He emphasized that India also proposes an increase in the share of ethanol in gasoline to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
"We propose taking an initiative to increase the share of ethanol in gasoline to 20 percent worldwide," he added.
The G20 summit, taking place in New Delhi from September 9 to 10, includes not only the member nations but also nine invited countries: Bangladesh, Egypt, Spain, Mauritius, Nigeria, the Netherlands, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, and Singapore.
Russia is represented at the summit by its Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
