India registers record increase in Coronavirus daily cases, Modi under pressure

On Friday, India registered 414,188 new cases of coronavirus during the past twenty-four hours, in a new daily record increase, while daily deaths jumped to 3,915 cases.

The number of cases in the country has reached 21.49 million, while the total number of deaths has risen to 234,083. this week India recorded 1.57 million cases and more than 15,100 deaths.

In just one week, about half of the new cases worldwide were detected in India, according to data from the World Health Organization.

As the number of Coronavirus cases in the country continue to rise to record levels, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is under pressure to impose a strict nationwide lockdown.
