India has recorded a total of 1,200 cases of the BA.2 subvariant of the Omicron variant of COVID-19, as of January 14, 2024.
The Indian Ministry of Health said that the new strain has been detected in 17 states in the country, while the state of Karnataka in southwestern India has the highest number of cases, with 215 cases.
It is worth mentioning that, World Health Organization (WHO) recently warned of the spread of a new strain of the coronavirus, the BA.2 subvariant, calling it a "variant of concern".
It also urged caution against the spread of the virus in different parts of the world and the increase in the incidence of COVID-19 from the new strain.
