In a commendable display of solidarity, India's humanitarian aid and disaster relief material (HADR) for the Palestinian people landed today at Al Arish Airport in Egypt.
The consignment, comprising a considerable 6.5 tons of medical supplies and an impressive 30 tons of disaster relief materials, marks India's unwavering commitment to its global allies. Included in the shipment were essentials like tents, basic sanitary utilities, and water purification tablets.
Ambassador of India, H.E. Mr. Ajit Gupte, played a pivotal role in this initiative, personally handing over the relief materials to the ‘Egyptian Red Crescent’ (ERC). This esteemed organization will oversee the onward transmission of these crucial supplies to Palestine, ensuring they reach those most in need.
India's support for Palestine is neither recent nor limited. Since 2002, India has been making consistent contributions to the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). A notable escalation in support was seen in 2018 when India augmented its annual contribution from US$ 1.25 million to a significant US$ 5 million. To date, India has channeled a commendable total of US$ 36.5 million to UNRWA, spanning up to 2022-23.
Beyond monetary support, India's developmental aid to Palestine is a testament to its commitment to global development and cooperation. A staggering figure of approximately US$ 141.2 million outlines India's economic assistance to Palestine. This aid encompasses developmental assistance valued at US$ 70.6 million and a budgetary backing of US$ 39 million to the Palestinian Authority.
Delving deeper into India's developmental ventures in Palestine, they range from the establishment of a state-of-the-art Techno-park to foundational educational institutions, including three schools. Other significant contributions feature a Women Empowerment Centre, the National Printing Press, two cutting-edge ICT Centres, and two Vocational Training Centres. Furthermore, India has continually rolled out several Quick Impact Projects, emphasizing their rapid response and unwavering support to Palestine.
In these trying times, India's humanitarian outreach underscores its role as a global leader in promoting peace, stability, and development.
