Iceland lifted all COVID-19 restrictions after vaccinating 87% of the state's population to become the first country in Europe to make such a decision, RT reported on Sunday.

Residents are no longer required to keep social distances or wearing masks, in addition, all measures related to gatherings and public occasions are canceled. The decision also includes the opening of bars and restaurants in the state.

During a press conference, Prime Minister Katrin Jakobsdottir said: "It's a strange feeling, having so often been here... to announce tougher measures, but today's the day we're going to lift them."

On the other hand, Iceland will keep its restrictions on travelers such as requiring negative PCR tests, and a second check after a five-day quarantine on un-vaccinated passengers.
