The Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Karim Khan, has expressed his belief that the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, may appear before the court for “alleged crimes” committed during the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.
Khan said - in exclusive statements to the American network (CNN) today (Saturday) - that this step may take place despite Moscow's argument that it is not subject to court decisions.
He added that "the move has already made history by making Putin the first president of a permanent member of the United Nations (UN) Security Council; an arrest warrant is issued against him.
Russia is among the many countries that have not signed the treaty that brought the court into being; Thus Moscow is not subject to the court's decisions, and given this, it is unlikely that Putin will be handed over to the court's jurisdiction.
