On Sunday, Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orban said Hungary will not allow itself to be trapped in armed conflict in Ukraine.

"We are not drifting into the spiraling bloody war and want a ceasefire and peace talks," the M1 television channel quoted him as saying.

He pledged that Hungary would not succumb to pressure from other countries and would not change its position in the Ukrainian conflict.

"Sirens luring us to ‘take the right side of history’ will not drag us into this trap. We must stay on the Hungarian side of history even in the most difficult situations," he stressed.

After the conflict broke out in Ukraine, the Hungarian government expressed support for Ukraine's territorial integrity and condemned Russia's actions. However, it refused to supply weapons to Kyiv.

Furthermore, Hungary has opposed EU sanctions against Russia, arguing that they will not help settle the situation in Ukraine but will only harm the European economy. This position caused outright indignation in Washington, Brussels, and many EU capitals.
