Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner revealed on Saturday more details about the deadly crowd surge accident that occurred at Travis Scott's Astroworld Festival, media agencies reported.

He said "We had more security over there than we had at the World Series games," in addition, he asserted that there is a serious investigation for identifying the real reasons for this incident.

Hundreds of security officers were deployed in the event, alongside 250 non-police members to preserve the safety and the security of the festival.

Eight persons were killed, and more than 300 people were injured in a tragic crowd surge on the opening show of a music festival in Houston, Texas.

The accident occurred when crowds started to panic and press towards the front of the stage at Travis Scott’s Astroworld Festival, authorities revealed.

The total casualties of the accident reached eight killed, 11 persons were transported to the hospital with Cedric attacks, 300 persons were injured by cuts and bruises.

Attended by almost 50,000 fans, the concert was described as an “extremely tragic night” by Lina Hidalgo, county judge of Harris County.

She added: “Our hearts are broken,” asserting, “People go to these events looking for a good time, a chance to unwind, to make memories – it’s not the kind of event you go to where you expect to find out about fatalities.”

In the same context, Houston Fire Chief Samuel Peña said that the incident started when: “The crowd began to compress toward the front of the stage, and people began to panic.”

The performance was disturbed several times during its 75-duration, in addition, rapper Travis Scott asked security to check the audience to see if anyone hurts from the crowd surge.

After the incident by a few hours, organizers announced the cancellation of the second day of the festival.
