In a tasty game, defending Cameroon will face Nigeria on Saturday, July 6 in the last 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations at Alexandria Stadium. SEE highlights the history of their confrontations in the AFCON.

The Indomitable Lions played against Super Eagles on 6 occasions, but Cameroon had the upper hand throughout history.

The five-time title holders secured victory on three occasions, while the three-time champions won only two games. The other confrontation ended in a draw.

1984:

The first game between both teams was in AFCON 1984, which was held in Ivory Coast. Cameroon defeated Nigeria 3-1 in the final leg to claim their first AFCON's title in their history.

1988:

In the 1988 Africa Cup of Nations, the Indomitable Lions faced Super Eagles twice. The first one ended in a 1-1 draw, while Indomitable Lions claimed their second trophy after beating Super Eagles 3-1 in the final leg of this tournament.

1992:

In the 1992 tournament, Nigeria took the bronze medal as they beat Cameroon 2-1 in the third-place playoff.

2000

Their fifth match was in the AFCON 2000, co-hosted by Ghana and Nigeria when the Indomitable Lions managed to claim their third title after beating the Super Eagles in the final after a dramatic penalty shoot-out (4−3) following a 2-2 draw during the match.

2004

The last game between both teams in AFCON was in 2004 when Nigeria qualified to the semi-final after beating Cameroon 2-1 in the last eight of the tournament.
