Today marks the first anniversary of 4th August 2020 chemical blast in Beirut that killed 200 people and plunged Lebanon further into economic crisis.

So, here's how American sitcom, The Simpsons, had predicted the horrific blast years before it really happened.

The Simpsons

Over the years, the long-running sitcom has become widely popular for predicting several events way before they take place.

From the teams in NFL Super Bowl in 2014 to Donald Trump's presidency in the United States, and lastly, Joe Biden's inauguration.

Lat year, social media users were convinced that The Simpsons did it yet again by apparently predicting the horrifying explosion in Beirut, Lebanon on August 4, 2020.

The claim that the American sitcom predicted the Beirut explosion stems from a video showcasing Homer Simpson lighting a firework which leads to an explosion, quite similar to that witnessed in Beirut.

As images and videos of a giant plume of smoke that looked like the result of a nuclear blast spread quickly on social media, many found similarities to similar images depicted in The Simpsons.

Then, the video clip started making rounds online, taken people on Twitter by shock with plenty of them convinced that the tragic incident was predicted by Matt Groening's show

Many referenced the 'Treehouse of Horror XV' episode, which aired in the show's 16th season and depicted how Homer Simpson accidentally blew up the city of Springfield. The episode first aired in 2004.

A user shared the video and wrote, "Simpson's has predicted Lebanon's explode? funny how people think the Simpsons predicted all events in the world. but who knows they probably planned everything so it looks like a prediction. just me? aight (sic)."

Another person said: "I don't know if this is a prediction but it seems we need to take these guys serious. The Beirut explosion something close to the Simpsons."
