Temper tantrums are unpleasant behaviors or emotional outbursts that happen in response to some unmet needs or desires. They are usually common in kids from the age of 1 to the age of 3.
Temper tantrums may happen in the form of whining, crying, screaming, kicking, hitting, and sometimes even breath holding. So, here is how to avoid your toddler’s temper tantrums.
Let your toddler make his own choices about small and minor stuff like choosing what type of juice to drink or whether to wash their teeth before or after their bath. This will give your toddler a sense of control which will in turn make them more accepting to the things they cannot have.
2- Keep unallowed stuff out of sight
Keep all of the unallowed stuff away from your toddler’s sight, this will make it less likely for your toddler to throw a tantrum over something they cannot see.
3- Distract your toddler
Make sure to take advantage of your toddler’s short attention span by offering something else instead of what they cannot have, starting a new activity to replace the one they cannot do or simply just take them away from whatever is causing their tantrum.
4- Don’t push your toddler’s limits
Make sure to always keep your toddler’s limits in mind and always consider them when you are making plans. For example, if your toddler is tired and it is past his bedtime, simply do not take them to grocery with you.
5- Give your toddler positive praise
Make sure to always catch your toddler in the act of being good or polite and to praise them for it and may be even reward them. This will give your toddler the attention they need making them more confident and consequently avoiding all the attention seeking tantrums.
