Health Min.: Misuse of Antibiotics Kills 5 Million People around World Annually

Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health & Population, affirmed that the launch of the national strategy to confront the unsafe use of antimicrobials is a step that protects the health of Egyptians from its risks.

The minister noted that the wrong misuse of antimicrobials causes the death of 5 million citizens globally every year.

He continued to say, during the activities of launching the national strategy to prevent the irrational use of antimicrobials, that the wrong use includes antibiotics and other various antimicrobials, and continued: If resistance occurs on the part of microbes and viruses to medicines, we will be in danger and a major pandemic, and we saw this in Corona, it has no cure, and when we found a vaccine, there were many changes.

He indicated that this must be addressed by training doctors and pharmacists on treatment protocols, especially antibiotics.
