UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that the issue of Jerusalem affects the entire world, as tension, violence and instability spread , stressing that all parties must avoid unilateral measures and provocative operations.
Guterres stressed in his speech via video conference, during the activities of the Jerusalem Conference held at the headquarters of the Arab League, that the position of the United Nations is clear and the status of Jerusalem cannot be changed through unilateral measures, including settlement activities in occupied Jerusalem, noting that this issue can be settled only through negotiations between the parties.
He made it clear that the historical and demographic status of Jerusalem must be preserved, stressing that the United Nations is committed to the measures taken by the Palestinians and the Israelis towards ending the occupation, as well as the two-state solution for two states living side by side to enhance stability and dignity for all.
