United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has warned that humanity is at risk of mass suicide due to the climate crisis.
Guterres said that forest fires and the heat wave that caused chaos across large sectors of the world have shown that humanity is facing mass suicide, at a time when governments are rushing to protect their people from the effects of severe heat waves.
He addressed ministers from 40 countries gathered on Monday to discuss the climate crisis.
The UN chief warned that half of humanity is now in danger from floods, droughts, severe storms, and wildfires.
Leaders from 40 countries are gathering in Berlin for the Petersburg Climate Dialogue, where participants will discuss extreme weather events, rising fossil fuel and food prices, and the effects of the climate change crisis.
