UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres described, on Tuesday, the latest floods in Derna, Libya as a sign of injustice.
His remarks came during the opening of the annual General Assembly.
He said: "Even as we speak now, bodies are washing ashore from the same Mediterranean Sea where billionaires sunbathe on their super yachts," adding, "Derna is a sad snapshot of the state of our world -- the flood of inequity, of injustice, of inability to confront the challenges in our midst."
The death toll of the tragic floods in Libya after Daniel Cyclone in Libya’s Derna jumped to 11,300, the United Nations issued in a report, noting that the number of victims will likely increase.
170 victims were added to the death toll of the Derna floods, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said.
It added that at least 10,100 people are still missing.
OCHA highlighted: “These figures are expected to rise as search-and-rescue crews work tirelessly to find survivors."
At least 30,000 people have been displaced in Derna alone.
