United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has warned of the repercussions of climate change.
Guterres stressed that the world is heading at a horrific speed towards a climate catastrophe, as major cities will be submerged, unprecedented heat waves, terrifying storms, widespread water shortages, and the extinction of a million species of plants and animals.
Guterres said in his message on the occasion of the release of the third report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, "This scene is neither a fantasy nor an exaggeration, it is the reality that science tells us will come about as a result of our current energy policies.
Guterres pointed out that in order to be able to maintain hope of achieving the 1.5°C targets, as agreed in Paris, we must cut global emissions by 45 percent within this decade.
