Gunman Kills 3, Injures 2 in Virginia University Shooting

The University of Virginia announced today that three people were killed, and two others were injured in a shooting on the campus on Sunday night.

According to university police, who identified the suspect as a student named Christopher Darnell Jones, adding that he was still roaming freely "armed and dangerous." Students were urged to take cover, but police arrested him on Monday.

University President Jim Ryan said in a statement on Twitter that a student was "suspected of committing the shooting," according to Fox8 TV.

The motive for the shooting remains unclear, according to authorities.

US gun violence has killed more than 18,000 people so far in 2022, including nearly 10,300 suicides, according to the US Gun Violence Archive.
