Greta Thunberg, who inspired millions of youth to take action against climate change, has been named Time Magazine’s Person of the Year.
The 16-year-old Swedish activist inspired school strikes for the climate movement after she went alone to the parliament, holding a sign reading "School climate strike".
Since then, she has become the face of the climate youth movement, attracting large crowds of demonstrations, protests and conferences over the past year and a half.
Activists and scholars have welcomed her activity, including combat sermons that challenge world leaders to do more to stop global warming.
"She has become the biggest voice in the biggest issue facing the planet this year," Time Editor-in-Chief Edward Felsenthal said, stressing that it is the smallest magazine selection ever.
"This was the year in which the climate crisis moved from behind the scenes to the center stage, from the surrounding political noise to the global agenda directly, and no one has done more to achieve this than Greta Thunberg," he said on Instagram.
