Germany’s Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock intends to strengthen cooperation with India in combating the climate crisis.

On Germany's priorities in the Indo-Pacific region, Annalena Baerbock said during a forum in the Indian capital New Delhi on Tuesday that no army can ward off the greatest threat to people around the world in this century.

“We can only fight it together,” she added, expressing her pleasure that India has put climate protection at the top of the agenda of its G20 presidency.

India assumed the presidency of the G20 of the major industrialized and emerging countries on the first of December. The country launched the group's presidency with the motto: “One Earth, One Family, One Future.”

Baerbock explained that the slogan reflects that "We can only meet this future together if we come together as a family, even if we don't always agree.”

India ranks fourth in the world in greenhouse gas emissions - after the US, China, and the EU, yet when calculated per capita, one person in India uses far less energy than someone from Germany.

India needs more energy, as millions of people do not yet have access to electricity.

In terms of growth, India is increasingly relying on renewable energy in its electricity mix and is building large solar plants; it is also relying on significantly more coal.
