Today, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas begins a Middle East tour to revive peace talks between the Israeli and Palestinian sides.
The German Foreign Ministry said that Maas will arrive in Cairo tomorrow, at the start of a tour to the Middle East region during which he will hold talks on a possible revival of the peace process between Israel and the Palestinians.
The ministry added that Maas will meet with the foreign ministers of Egypt, Jordan and France.
The group consisted of the four aforementioned countries was established last February on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference to push the peace process, which was suspended for years.
Christofer Burger, a spokesman for the German Foreign Ministry said that "The developments showed that there is a possibility of stirring up a misunderstood issue in the context of the Middle East peace process."
There were no direct talks between Israel and the Palestinians for nearly seven years. The last attempt, in April 2014, failed despite the mediation of the US Secretary of State John Kerry.
