German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stressed the importance of cohesion and strength in the face of the "Russian attack on Ukraine", describing 2022 as a 'difficult year'.

In his New Year's speech, the German chancellor confirmed that 2023 begins with a series of innovations that will benefit many Germans, saying, "Families will receive more child benefits, students will receive a one-time grant of 200 euros, and two million families will benefit from the largest reform of housing benefits."

He added that there is good news related to energy, as Germany is no longer receiving Russian oil through the pipeline, which is another important step on the road to crisis-proof energy supplies.
