Arab League (AL) council will hold an extraordinary session in Doha, Qatar among Arab Foreign Ministers (FMs) next Tuesday, at the request of Egypt and Sudan to discuss the latest developments regarding Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).
The meeting comes after Egypt and Sudan urged the international community to practice pressure on Ethiopia to go back to the negotiating table.
On Saturday, Sameh Shoukry, Egypt’s Foreign Minister sent a letter yesterday, Friday, to the chairman of the United Nations (UN) Security Council to explain the developments of the GERD.
The council, according to the UN Charter is responsible for keeping security and peace in the world.
FM’s letter included Egypt’s objection to Ethiopia’s intention to fill the dam during the next flood.
The Egyptian minister expressed the full rejection to Ethiopia’s movements to impose status quo on the downstream countries (Egypt and Sudan) through unilateral procedures that contradict the binding rules of international law.
