The Minneapolis City Council approved on Friday the largest police settlement in the city's history for the family of George Floyd.
The city council will pay $27 million to the family of Floyd, who died after being handcuffed and pinned to the ground by an officer's knee on May 25, 2020.
Of that $27 million settlement, $500,000 will go as a donation to the community around the intersection where he died, 38th Street and Chicago Avenue in Minneapolis.

The council approved the settlement following a closed session on Friday.
Family attorney Ben Crump said this is the largest pre-trial settlement in a wrongful civil rights death in US history. The second largest settlement in Minneapolis' history was in 2017, when the family of Justin Rossek Damond received $20 million after their son was murdered by American-Somali police officer Mohamed Noor.
