The 59-year-old actor George Clooney admitted to giving away 14 million dollars to his closest friends back in 2013 during his GQ interview with Zach Baron. The interview was published for the first time yesterday.
Clooney explained that he made quite a lot of money from his successful space thriller “Gravity” with Sandra Bullock and that he did not have a family yet to spend the money on. So, instead of saving it he decided to give it away to 14 of his closest friends as a thank you because he would not have anything without their constant support and help.
Clooney told Baron that he drove an old van to downtown Los Angeles where a warehouse with “giant pallets of cash” is located and filled several bags with the 14 million dollars before inviting his friends over to his house.
He then held up a map and showed his friends all the amazing countries and things he got to see because of them. “How do you repay people like that?” he asked before answering his own question, “Oh, well: how about a million bucks?” and giving each one of them 1 million dollars.
It is noteworthy that the actor had all 14 of his friends in his will at the time in case he was “hit by a bus”.
Also, he discussed many other things in his GQ interview like how he truly learned the art of acting on “ER”, his almost fatal motorcycle accident, and that time he fell on a film set and leaked spinal fluid from his nose.
