Leaders of the Group of Seven most developed nations (G7) stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin put himself on the "wrong side of history" with the invasion of Ukraine.

"President Putin has re-introduced war to the European continent. He has put himself on the wrong side of history," they said in a statement on Thursday following crisis talks.

On his part, U.S. President Joe Biden forcefully condemned the Russian leader's pre-dawn invasion of Ukraine, calling it a premeditated attack and a brutal assault “without provocation, without justification, without necessity.”

“Vladimir Putin has been planning this for months,” Biden said.

Moreover, he has announced new sanctions that include banning what can be exported to Russia, which he said would be a “severe cost” to the Russian economy, “both immediately and over time.”

“We have purposely designed these sanctions to maximize a long-term impact on Russia and to minimize impact on the United States and our allies,” the American President affirmed.
