G20 Leaders Aspire to Vaccinate 70% of World's Population by Mid-2022

The finance and health ministers of the world's 20 largest economies (the Group of Twenty) said they want to vaccinate 70% of the world's population against COVID-19 within the next eight months.

The ministers released a statement that said to help progress towards the global goals of vaccinating at least 40% of the population in all countries by the end of 2021 and 70% by mid-2022.

They pledged to take steps to help boost vaccine supplies, essential medical products for developing countries, and the removal of related supply and financing constraints.

The statement continued the twenty nations group have established a joint task force between finance and health for the group, which aims to enhance dialogue and global cooperation on issues related to preparedness for the prevention and response to epidemics.

The ministers affirmed that they are working to enhance the exchange of experiences and best practices, establish coordination arrangements between the ministries of finance and health, enhance collective action, assess and address cases health.

The Group of Twenty (G20) will hold its summit this year in Rome, for the first time since the outbreak of the Corona pandemic, amid intense security reinforcements, and the absence of the leaders of China, Japan, Mexico, Russia, and Saudi Arabia.

The summit, which will start tomorrow, Saturday, will necessitate its work on Sunday, October 31, and will focus on the climate, combating COVID-19 and economic recovery on the eve of the International Climate Conference "COP26", which will be held in Glasgow, Scotland (Britain).

On the other hand,  the Kremlin press office reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin will participate in the Group of Twenty (G20) summit on Saturday and Sunday via video conference.

The statement added that views will be exchanged on issues of resuming the global economy, ensuring digital transformation, and achieving stable development goals.

Special attention will also be given to issues of overcoming the repercussions of the Coronavirus pandemic, strengthening health systems, and conducting comprehensive immunization.
