Former US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was hospitalized after being injured during her trip to Luxembourg with the congressional delegation, the spokesman Ian Kragersaid on Friday.
Pelosi: “sustained an injury during an official engagement,” Kragersaid said in a brief statement.
The statement didn't add any details about the nature of the injury. He said she was transported to a hospital for evaluation.
A person familiar with the incident told the media that Pelosi fell down stairs at the Grand Ducal Palace and took a hard fall. The person hadn't the authority to comment and spoke on her condition.
People close to Pelosi in California and Washington, D.C. said the former speaker fractured her hip when she fell.
They said doctors were confident the damage could be repaired with a routine operation.
The former speaker was traveling with colleagues from the House of Representatives and the Senate to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge.
