Ford Motor Company announced their initiative to use recycled plastic in making vehicle parts in order to reduce environmental pollution.
The company plays a significant role in reducing plastic use as it recycles 1.2 billion plastic bottle a year; 300 recycled bottles are used for each vehicle.
Recycled Plastic
The first step is cutting plastics into flakes then melting them down by using heat of 260 degrees Celsius; the last step is producing thin fibers to make vehicle’s carpets.
The EcoSport is produced in several factories around the globe, including Craiova, Romania and India which produces the Australian versions.
Design engineer Thomas Sweder at Ford Motors said in a statement, “The underbody shield is a large part, and for a part that big, if we use solid plastic it would likely weigh three times as much.”
“We do it because it makes sense technically and economically as much as it makes sense for the environment,” Sweder added.
Ford posted a video to highlight the importance of recycling plastic.
