Ukraine plans to try a 21-year-old Russian soldier for a war crime, in the first trial of its kind in such a case in light of the Russian invasion that has continued since February 24, according to the Ukrainian Prosecutor General in Kyiv announced.
The Prosecutor's Office, Irina Venediktova, said in a statement that Vadim Shishimarin was accused of shooting with a Kalashnikov rifle from the window of a car in which he was, killing a 62-year-old civilian who was not armed.
The statement stated that the accused soldier was traveling with four other Russian soldiers in a car they stole near the village of Chubakhivka after their convoy was attacked on February 28, noting that the civilian, whose identity has not been identified, was on a motorbike on the edge of the road near his home.
