Egypt's President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi will be the chief guest at India's Republic Day celebrations next January, the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Sunday.
"This is the first time an Egyptian president is going to be a chief guest at India's Republic Day celebrations," the ministry said in a statement.
"India and Egypt enjoy warm and friendly relations based on the deep-rooted civilizational relations between the two peoples," the statement added, noting that both countries are celebrating the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations this year.
It is worth mentioning that, Indian Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi sent an official invitation to President Sisi on October 16.
