An Egyptian official delegation, headed by Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, travelled on Wednesday to the Tanzania to attend the inauguration ceremony of the Egypt-made Julius Nyerere Hydroelectric Power Project's (JNHPP) lake filling, which is set to take place on Thursday.
In a statment, Egypt's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid stated that Shoukry will participate on Thursday, in JNHPP's filling ceremony, during which the diversion tunnel's gate will be closed to start the process of filling the dam reservoir.
The ceremony will be attended by a large number of officials and representatives of the coalition implementing the project, as well as symbols of Tanzanian society,in addition to the media and citizens.
Abu Zeid added that Tanzanian President Samia Hassan, is scheduled to participate in the celebration, given the great importance of the project for the Tanzanian people to generate energy and control the flooding of the Rufiji River, in addition to regulating the sustainability of water flows necessary for cultivating the surrounding areas and carrying out river fishing activities.
It is worth mentioing that JNHPP is one of the most important development projects being implemented in the African continent at a cost of $3 billion.
The project is an embodiment of the capabilities and potentials of Egyptian companies in implementing major infrastructure projects in a number of African countries, and a role model for constructive regional cooperation between brotherly African countries to support development efforts and achieve the interests of their peoples.
