Egypt's Foreign Minister (FM) made a phone call with his Israeli counterpart Eli Cohen on Thursday to congratulate him on taking up his new post, accroding to Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid.

During the phone call, Shoukry wished his Israeli counterpart success in his duties, especially those related to supporting bilateral relations between the two countries, and strengthening consultation mechanisms on various issues of common concern.

Moreover, Egypt's top diplomat stressed the importance of working seriously to revive the peace process as soon as ppossible, considering it as the best and only way to achieve the vision of a two-state solution, the establishment of the Palestinian state, and the achievement of stability and comprehensive peace for all the peoples of the region.

Furthermore, FM also stressed that Egypt will always play its role and bear its historical responsibility in supporting peace efforts to end the conflict, which requires stopping unilateral measures that would complicate the situation, underlining the need to preserve the legal and historical status quo of Jerusalem city, as this has a direct impact on easing tensions.
