A small fire broke out today at the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant in Romania, prompting the evacuation of employees. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
According to a press release by the state-owned Romanian company Nuclearelectrica: "On June 11, 2024, a small fire occurred in Unit 2 of the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant, specifically in a pump located in the basement of the turbine hall. The fire did not affect other equipment."
The company emphasized that the fire and smoke did not compromise the nuclear safety or the operation of the nuclear power plant.
The statement added, "The power plant continues to operate at its rated power under normal conditions." Rescue teams confirmed that the fire was quickly identified and extinguished, and an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the incident.
