Facebook has announced that live videos will only be stored on the social network for 30 days, after which they will be deleted.
Previously, these videos were stored indefinitely, and the change will go into effect on Wednesday.
Before the videos are deleted, users will receive a notification and will be given 90 days to choose what to do with their old live content. Users can choose to download the videos to their devices, move them to cloud storage, or convert the content to a new reel.
Meta explained: "Since most views of live videos occur within the first few weeks of broadcast, we are updating the length of time that live videos can be stored on Facebook. Starting February 19, any new live videos can be replayed, downloaded, or shared from your Facebook pages or profiles for 30 days, after which they will be automatically removed from Facebook. Previously, these videos were stored indefinitely."
Until now, people have been able to relive memories that were shown to family and friends at any time via their profiles, but the company is adding a new life limit to hosting them on the platform.
From today, Facebook Live will only be available for 30 days after they air, after which they will be automatically deleted. Users can also turn the footage into a Reel video — although Reels have a 90-second time limit.
