The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis (TB) and Malaria expect more TB and HIV infections as a result of Russia's aggressive war in Ukraine.
"It is too early to make an accurate assessment of the long-term consequences of the war, but we expect that the conflict will have a significant impact on the rates of tuberculosis and HIV infection in the world," said fund manager Peter Sands.
Ukraine and the whole region the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that more than 260,000 people in Ukraine are infected with AIDS.
According to the German Robert Koch Institute for Disease Control, Ukraine recorded one of the highest rates of TB in the European WHO region in 2020.
