European Union' Delegation Visits MSMEDA Projects in Assuit

  Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency (MSMEDA) Mr. Bassel Rahmy accentuated MSMEDA's keenness on fostering cooperation with partner international financial institutions, mainly, the European Union (EU) ,particularly, on launching developmental projects in the governorates of Egypt to help create daily job opportunities for casual workers and recondition unplanned areas to become an enabling environment for the establishment and development of SMEs.

Mr. Rahmy said MSMEDA engages on boosting strategic partnership with donor agencies building on the confidence placed on MSMEDA. Such confidence has been translated into aspects of cooperation along many years to contribute to achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and improving the quality of life for the inhabitants of unplanned areas thereby securing more funds to establish development activities and projects and take part in implementing the national initiatives.

Statements of Mr. Rahmy were made in response to the visit conducted by representatives of the EU to Assiut governorate headed by Ms. Sophie Vanhaeverbeke Head of Cooperation at the EU Delegation to Egypt, and Ms. Vera Morandini International Cooperation Officer at the Delegation of the EU to Egypt, Social & Human Development Section. MSMEDA representatives accompanied the EU Delegation presided at by Dr. Waleed Darweesh Head of the Human and Community Development Central Sector and accompanied by MSMEDA Human & Community Sector and Regional Offices Sector. Assuit Governor General Essam Saad held a meeting with the delegation to discuss on-going cooperation.

The visit aimed at inspecting a number of projects MSMEDA already implements jointly with Assiut governorate and funded by the EU on developing infrastructure and community development through the Agreement on Addressing the Root Causes of Irregular Migration through Employability and Labor-Intensive Works (ELIW) financed by the EU, and the Community Development Program (CDP) funded by the European Investment Bank (EIB), in addition to the EU sponsored projects through the (GIZ).

CEO of MSMEDA Mr. Rahmy emphasized that MSMEDA is keen on boosting strategic partnership with different donor agencies and works in close cooperation with Ministry of International Cooperation to contribute to the execution of development projects that improve living conditions in underprivileged areas.

Meanwhile, Assuit Governor and the EU representatives commended on projects MSMEDA is executing in Assiut governorate given its positive impact reflected on the quality of life for the inhabitants. 

The delegation visited projects, totaling 152.2 L.E million, that included restoration of schools, pavement of roads and development of canals, health units youth centers in Mosha and Shatab villages and a number of projects in Western Assuit… Such projects also created 885.974 daily jobs and provided training to 2,483 youth for youth in the targeted villages.
