Vice-President of the European Commission Margaritis Schinas said that 5 million people immigrated from Ukraine to the European Union legally, in addition to illegal immigration.
He stressed the importance of laying the foundations for a unified sustainable approach to legal immigration through initiatives with partners from neighboring countries.
Shinas added, during a meeting organized by the Chamber of Commerce in Alexandria today, Friday, that legal immigration has a positive impact in all respects, as it gives those wishing to emigrate an opportunity to improve their living conditions, in parallel with providing more skilled workers to host countries, which in turn enhances the economy for all.
He stated that we must work together to combat illegal immigration from Mediterranean countries.
Meanwhile, the European Union Ambassador, Christian Berger, said that establishing a mechanism to encourage legal immigration is of utmost importance to Egypt, especially since remittances from Egyptians abroad are the first source of foreign currency, which exceeds $32 billion annually.
