The EU announced the launch of a non-offensive military assistance program for Moldova, worth 40 million euros from the European Peace Fund.
"The overall objective of the Assistance Measure is to contribute to strengthening the capacities of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Moldova in order to enhance national security, stability, and resilience in the defense sector, in line with Union policy," the Council of the EU said in a statement.
The statement added that this would increase the optional efficiency of the military, raise compatibility and accelerate the implementation of EU standards, which will lead to better for civilians in times of crisis and emergency.
The program will finance the purchase of logistical equipment, vehicles, command, and control equipment, cybersecurity equipment, unmanned aerial reconnaissance equipment, and tactical communications equipment, according to the statement.
"The duration of the Assistance Measure shall be 36 months," the document says adding that it will be 40 million euros.
The European Peace Fund operates within the framework of the EU's foreign service, from which the Union pays general military supplies to Ukraine, after allocating two billion euros for these purposes last February.
