The Government of Egypt agreed with the European Union to implement several projects in the energy, water, trade and local development sectors. The projects worth EUR 110 million under the unified support program signed during the period from 2017 to 2020 worth EUR 500 million.
To carry out the projects, Dr. Mohamed Shaker, the Electricity and Renewable Energy Minister, Dr. Sahar Nasr, Investment and International Cooperation Minister and a group of ministers held a meeting with Ambassador Ivan Sorcous, EU Ambassador to Cairo.
Shaker reported that the deal aims, in cooperation with the EU, to increase reliance on renewable energy, increase its share of total energy produced in Egypt, as well as improving production, distribution efficiency and establishing distribution control centers.
On other hand, Dr. Nasr explained that the European Union is one of the Egypt's most important international development partners. EU committed half a billion dollars in financing through the current funding strategy until 2020; the strategy include the sectors of water and sanitation, civil society, vocational training, administrative reform, internal trade and heritage cultural.
