Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated on Sunday that a unified response is necessary to counter the surge of Islamophobia.
The Turkish news agency Anadolu reported that Erdogan made these comments in a pre-recorded speech delivered at the 46th annual conference of the Association of Physicians of Pakistani Origin in North America held in Dallas, USA.
Erdogan called on the Muslim world to collectively combat Islamophobia and rising xenophobia in Western nations.
The Turkish President asserted: "The abhorrent attack on our holy book, the Quran, in Sweden on the first day of Eid al-Adha reveals the horrifying extent to which Islamophobia has reached."
Erdogan clarified that "We, as Muslims, have a collective responsibility to ensure such actions, to which Turkey reacts very strongly, do not occur again."
