Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on Wednesday, proposed formation of an international commission of inquiry into the destruction of the Kakhovka Dam in southern Ukraine.
The Turkish presidency stated in a statement that during a phone call with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky: “President Erdogan said that a committee could be formed with the participation of experts from both sides of the conflict, the United Nations and the international community, including Turkey".
Ukraine accused Russian forces of blowing up the dam and the nearby hydroelectric power station, which has been located in an area controlled by Moscow for more than a year, while Russian officials blamed the collapse of the dam on Ukrainian bombing of the disputed area where the river separates the two sides.
