On Friday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a videoconference call with German chancellor Angela Merkel on bilateral relations, as well as the Turkey-European Union (EU) ties, according to the Turkish Presidency.

On his part, Erdogan said that there is an opportunity to strengthen relations between Turkey and the EU, stressing, " Turkey wants to turn over a new leaf with the EU."

The Turkish president added that some countries are trying to create crises to sabotage the positive agenda between Turkey and the EU.

Moreover, Erdogan called on EU leaders to reconsider the migrant deal concluded in 2016, which he said would be “the key to a positive agenda”.

It is worth mentioing that, during their last meeting in Brussels, EU leaders decided to draw up a list of Turkish targets for sanctions over Ankara’s “unilateral actions and provocations” in the eastern Mediterranean, believed to be rich in energy resources.
