Endowments Min. Denies Fake Polygamy News in Yemen

Fake news spread on social media today, concerning Yemeni authorities taking a decision to impose polygamy due to the "shortage of men" because of the ongoing conflict in the country. The news stirred widespread controversy amid social media activists in the Arab world.

Meanwhile, a fake document has been published and signed by the Minister of Endowments Ahmed Attia. The Yemeni Minister denied that through his Twitter account, the document's authenticity. As for the comments that ranged from serious and funny, many people considered what was stated in the post as a real decision issued by the internationally recognized Yemeni government .

Noteworthy, the document states: “A man must marry no less than two women; the state will pay the marriage and housing cost. However, a man who refuses to marry will be imprisoned, and every wife who tries to prevent her husband from remarrying will be exposed to punishment.
