Father of Mohamed Elneny has claimed his son is making final touches to join AC Milan. The former Arsenal man has spent the first half of the season playing in Turkey with Besiktas after falling out of favor at the Emirates.
Elneny has made 17 appearances this season for Besiktas; his performance appears to have impressed other clubs.
His former club Arsenal is currently in desperate need of money, therefore, any interest in the experienced midfielder could provide the new manager Mikel Arteta with some much-needed money.
Milan are currently having once of, if not the worst run of their career and they were humiliated on Sunday 5-0 by Atalanta.
Elneny’s dad Nasser has revealed the Egypt international could be on his way to the San Siro. He told TV channel Sada Al Balad: "The negotiations between Mohamed and Milan are at an advanced stage, but the contract has not yet been signed.
"They have renewed interest in my son and the next few hours could be decisive with Milan. "He did well with Besiktas but wants to move to a stronger league at Milan."
Granit Xhaka, who played regularly with Elneny at Arsenal, has been linked with a move away ever since he got into problems with fans last October.
But Arteta has backed the Swiss star by revealing he was once a target for Manchester City.
“As a player, when I was going from Arsenal to City to start coaching and we were looking in that position, he was one of the players on my list,” he said.
“This is how much I liked him. I was happy when Arsenal signed him because I thought he was going to be a terrific player.
“He has done some really good things and now he has got stuck in a very difficult situation that, I think, was growing and growing and growing and one day it exploded.
“But I have been amazed as well by how this relationship is starting to come back a little bit and I think the fans have been very very positive about him, and him as well.
“Obviously, it is difficult to change completely the scenario from where he was a magnificent one.
“But I think we are in the right direction with him.”
