Dr. Ayman Hamza, a spokesman for the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, revealed that the ministry signed a number of memorandums of understanding (MoU) to start studies and special discussions to start implementing pilot projects to produce green hydrogen in Egypt as a first step to expand in this field, stressing that green hydrogen will be the fuel of the future within the next 10 years ahead.
Hamza added that cooperation is taking place through conducting a study on joint projects to produce green hydrogen using electricity generated from renewable energy sources, as well as producing blue hydrogen by storing carbon dioxide in aging natural gas fields.
The study also includes identifying the potential local market consumption of hydrogen and the available export opportunities, as well as evaluating the plans and actions necessary to implement the proposed projects.
He revealed that Egypt enjoys huge opportunities to generate electricity from renewable energies and that it is striving with all forces to exploit this economically and enter and compete strongly in the field of hydrogen production, which aims to eliminate carbon dioxide emissions and preserve the environment.
